2015 is most certainly a special year for all the Member States of the EU as it marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, the 25th anniversary of European reunification and the 20th anniversary of the Schengen Agreement entering into effect. Not only do these jubilees remind us of notions such as European peace, reunification, and free internal borders, but they draw attention to the fact that these achievements cannot be looked upon as permanent and irreversible.
The Antall József Knowledge Centre wishes to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Antall government, as well as European reunification. For this reason, we will organise a year-long programme series in 2015 entitled Antall 25, part of which is the Variations on Europe conference series. The Variations on Europe is a truly international conference series consisting of 4 events in 3 different countries, with the events taking place in Brussels, Paris and Budapest. The main objective of each conference of the Variations on Europe series is to bring together East-Central European, Western European and other international academic experts, policy-makers, and opinion-shapers to address the key challenges of the European integration by discussing the most important events and phenomena from different perspectives.
